This item is exceptionally well built and functions for me as both a bread box and a cutting board. It serves it purpose as both with such a thick base wood board. The hinges of the box function nice and smoothly and are protected against wear by washers that are sandwiched in between the two steel coverings. It could easily fit two loaves of bread. Keeps them fresh and out of the way. I never thought of myself as a bread box person until I tried these out. It fits perfectly on the kitchen counter and the door takes up no extra space to open so it can fit in tight places.
