This mortar is the perfect size for herb grinding. It is real marble and VERY heavy. it is about 3.5 inches of actually bowl portion, the rim is about 1/2 an inch thick as is the base. The Pestle is very nicely shaped to hold without a lot of fatigue. It is heavy enough to give you a good crushing weight but not so heavy that it wears out your hand.

The size is not great for large items like avocado, wheat or other items you need in large quanities, but it could be used for them if needed. This would best be used for herbs, cloves or garlic, smaller items that are not normally needed in large amounts.
